2024 Summer Camp

2025 Summer Camp FAQs

Our camps are for ages 4-12. Our 4-5 year old camps are half day (9am – 1pm and/or 1pm – 3pm) and our 6-12 year old camps are full day (9am – 3pm).

Is there an Extended Day option?
Yes, we do offer an Extended Day program for children from 3pm to 5pm, except for Week 1 and Week 9. Extended Day sessions are a relaxing way to end a day of exciting science adventure. We’ll have a supervised room and provide light arts and crafts, games, books, and our favorite science movies during this unstructured period. Pick up your child any time before 5pm from the Safari Room downstairs. There is no carpool line for Extended Day. Register for Extended Day as an option with all-day or afternoon camps. Extended Day is $40/week. If you would like to add Extended Day as an option to a previously purchased camp, please contact camps@greensboroscience.org.

A successful camper is able to be independent during camp. Campers need to be fully potty trained and able to communicate their body’s needs with our staff. Campers should be able to follow instructions and directions, walk in a line throughout the campus with their group and be able to open and close lunch containers on their own. We encourage parents and guardians to review the Camp Behavior Contract with their child to ensure they understand camp expectations and possible consequences. You can review the Behavior Contract (here). Our goal is for every camper to have a fun and successful camp experience.

GSC staff will not administer any medication, except for EpiPens in the event of an emergency. If you would like your child to have sunscreen or bug spray for camp, please apply these before coming to camp.

Children bringing an EpiPen to camp will need to complete an EpiPen Authorization and Waiver Form, available (here). Completed forms will be turned into GSC staff along with the EpiPen when you check in on the first day of camp. Extra forms will be available at check-in as well.

Please be aware that while we request campers send in nut-free lunches and snacks, it is not possible for us to fully monitor what foods are brought in by other campers and the general public.

The Greensboro Science Center aims to provide a friendly, accessible environment for all campers by providing the widest possible access to our building, exhibitions, events and programs. While we hope to offer our camps to as wide a range of children as possible, it is not possible for us to offer one-on-one care. If your child can benefit from any modification and/or support in order to fully enjoy his/her time at camp, please contact camps@greensboroscience.org.

  • Snack
    • Morning camps (9am-1pm) take a snack break, as do the full day (9am-3pm) camps. Please send a labeled, nut-free snack.  A snack is just a break, so sending something simple like goldfish crackers or fruit is suggested.
  • Lunch
    • With the exception of afternoon camps from 1pm – 3pm, all camps (9am – 1pm and 9am – 3pm) will include a supervised lunch period from 12 – 12:45pm. Please be sure to send a drink and nut-free lunch that does not need to be refrigerated each day. Make sure your child’s lunch container is labeled with their name and that they can open and close their lunch containers independently. Our camp activities are nut-free but we will need to know if your child has contact, ingestion or airborne food allergies. We do offer a nut-free table for our campers with allergy concerns to ensure their safety.
  •  A labeled, reusable water bottle
  • Optional Items
    • Many of our classes spend some time outside, so you may want to apply sunscreen and/or bug spray on your child before camp. A hat and a small bookbag for holding art and belongings is also a good idea. Please be sure all items are labeled with your child’s name.

Our focus for the camp day is on science and fun, so please leave all toys and electronics at home. Our camp staff is not responsible for lost or damaged items. Sturdy, closed-toed footwear (like sneakers) is so important for our campers’ comfort and safety. Shoes with wheels such as Heelys are not permitted in camp.

If a child must bring a cell phone to camp, it is to remain in a book bag out of sight for the duration of camp and lunch. If a camper has the phone out during camp time they will be reminded to put it away. Excessive reminders will result in the phone being removed until pick-up.

Our general science camps have a maximum of 16 campers, while our 4-5 camps have 14 campers. Our robotics camps have a maximum of 8 campers. Each camp has a teacher, a teacher assistant, and one to two volunteers.

Our teaching staff are active and previous classroom teachers, educators from formal and informal backgrounds, and GSC Education Staff. All teachers, teaching assistants and volunteers complete a background check.

  • Drop-off begins at 8:45am for morning camps and 12:45pm for afternoon camps. Signs will be placed outside to direct you to our carpool line.
  • It may take a while to sign in campers using the carpool line (especially on Mondays) so please be patient and don’t walk up to the table.
  • When you pull up, provide staff with your camper’s name and their camp name, or place a sign in your car window with this information. A staff member will walk your child to their waiting area.
  • If you are late to camp, please bring your camper to our front desk and let our Membership staff know to call camp staff. A late camper must be escorted to their camp by staff as many will have zoo or museum excursions and will not be in their main room at the time of drop-off.
  • The pick-up location will be the same as drop-off. To ensure your child’s safety, anyone picking up your child must be listed on their Health Form. A staff member will walk your child to your car. Again, please be patient with the carpool line, and please don’t walk up to the table.
  • Pick-up from Extended Day is located in the Safari Room downstairs. Parents and guardians will need to walk to the room to pick up their child from Extended Day. There is no carpool line for Extended Day. Please double-check if your child is signed up for Extended Day. This information will be listed on the child’s registration confirmation.
  • In order to accommodate any overtime that occurs for late pick-up, a late fee of $25.00 per day will be implemented if you are more than 10 minutes late picking up your child. The late fee must be paid in full before the beginning of the next day of camp for your child to attend. This applies to regular camp pick-up times and Extended Day.

There is a $15 fee to switch camps. Refunds (minus a $25 processing fee per participant per camp) for cancellations will be issued, provided the GSC is notified at least 14 days in advance. Unfortunately we do not offer refunds due to illness if notified less than 14 days in advance. Should the GSC cancel a week of camp you are registered for, due to low enrollment, you will receive a full refund.

Due to our online registration system, Active Network, there are costs involved in which we cannot offer a full refund.
