Me, Myself and I
Look at yourself from the inside out. Take an adventure through your body and learn all about the parts that make YOU! Investigate everything from your five senses to the sound of your own heart.
Farm Fun
Spend the week on the farm at the Greensboro Science Center. Make your own butter, dye wool and lend a hand in the barnyard. There are enough “chores” for everyone as we explore life on the farm.
Over Reacting
Bubble, fizz, POP! Everyone is a scientist in this camp. Learn about the different tools used for mixing and changing chemicals. Make reactions that are colorful, slimy and explosively over the top while discovering how and why they happen.
Puddle Jumpers
Let’s ride the wave of water exploration, focusing on the amazing gifts our rivers, lakes, wetlands, ponds and oceans provide for us. We’ll learn how to take care of our waters by interacting with resident aquatic friends at the Science Center and exploring local streams and lakes. Come dressed for watery fun.
For 6 - 7-year-old LEGO® camps, see the Rookie Engineers section of Robotics Labs.
Chemical Chaos
Chemistry is everywhere! Learn how chemicals react to make something new as you create cool, slimy polymers. Observe how pigments separate to create a burst of color. Chemistry is not just fun - it’s chaotic!
Animal Mysteries
What animals live in your backyard? Why do animals live where they live? From listening to sounds to exploring a variety of habitats, we’ll learn how animals are suited for their environments and how to discover what animals hang out in our own backyards.
Fizz, Bubble, Flash
What makes cabbage and old eggs smell so bad? Why does soda make a penny shiny? Discover which combinations create explosions or slime and how we use this in everyday life. Part chemistry, part physical science and totally fun, you’ll gain a new appreciation for objects around your house.
Stars and Stripes
Join us for our holiday camp as we explore different areas of science. We’ll mix things up, make things move and meet a variety of animal guests. From the earth beneath your feet to the stars in the sky, we’ll explore a different area of science each day.
Aquatic Adventures
Explore the wet and wonderful world of the Greensboro Science Center. From collecting aquatic insects in Country Park to getting an up close look at sharks in our aquarium, you’ll learn about all sorts of fresh and saltwater animals and habitats. Dress for a mess and outdoor play.
For 8 - 9-year-old LEGO® camps, see the Intermediate Engineers section of Robotic Lab.
Engineer It
Think it, build it, test it. If creativity, experimentation and problem-solving get you going, then this camp is for you. Spend a week exploring the fascinating world of engineering. We’ll challenge your design and construction skills as you come up with solutions to science stumpers!
Chemical Concoctions
From the kitchen to the laboratory, reactions happen all around us! Join us as we try to solve different CHEM-mysteries. Make soda explode, experiment with slime, and explore the differences between chemical and physical reactions.
Animal Safari
Explore adaptations of the five vertebrate groups- fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals. We’ll meet them all and learn about each group through activities, fieldwork, and zoo and aquarium observations. Join us on an animal safari as we dissect an owl pellet, try fish printing and track animals.
High Flyin' 4th
Celebrate the holiday with science highlights this week. You’ll hang out with animals, compete in the famous egg-drop Olympics, investigate indoors and out, and try your hand at chemistry. We’ll also take in an OmniSphere Theater show and explore nearby Country Park.
Animal Antics
Scales and slime, feathers and fur – learn about all kinds of animals this week! From animal visitors to trips to our zoo and the habitats around us, you’ll combine natural history with arts and crafts to bring home memories of your wild week.
For 10 - 12-year-old LEGO® camps, see the Rookie Robotics section of Robotic Lab.
Animal Care Camp
Join us for a variety of experiences for the true animal lover as you find out how we care for our animals. We’ll lend a hand in the zoo and aquarium each day, learn about the care of all kinds of animals, and meet animal professionals as they share their experiences with us. Dress for outdoor work; closed-toe shoes and masks are a must.
If you have taken this popular camp in a previous summer, please allow others to sign up this summer. Repeat campers will be removed from this camp so as to allow for more kids to experience this camp. A $25 processing fee will be applied to this cancellation.
Fantastic Physics
Physics makes the world go around – literally. Learn its secrets as you build and design marble mazes, racecars and more. Energy and motion take center stage in this week of “phantastically phun” physics.
Animals Inside Out
Gain a new appreciation for diversity and adaptations as you take a look at animal anatomy and behavior. Dissect a fish, a squid and an owl pellet to get the inside scoop and then make external observations of tracks, behaviors and even scent markings to learn all about animals.
Red, White & Blue
Can’t pick a favorite science topic? This holiday week camp is for you! Be a chemist for a day, have fun with physics, enjoy awesome astronomy and explore nature. We’ll go behind-the-scenes to learn about animal care as we sample and experiment with a variety of science topics.
Cool Chemistry
Create crystals, pop popcorn and perform candy chromatography – all in the name of science. You’ll learn about compounds that change how things work and run scientific tests on common household items to find “the best.” You’ll also come up with ultimate recipes for fizzy, oozing and odiferous improvements!
Our goal with each level of our brick building camps is to teach a basic understanding of the lesson’s concepts, steadily increase practical ability, share ideas and have fun. All camps have free-building time to encourage imagination, directed assignments that pertain to the camp’s topic and various coding activities. Your child must be the program age by the start of camp. Please choose ONE session per topic for the summer.
STEAM Park
Let’s build a park out of LEGO® DUPLO® simple machines! Our Beginner Builders will work together to learn how to incorporate various STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) examples into their very own park. We’ll study the features of Country Park and imagine our own playground through open exploration and imagination.
Dragons and Castles
Can you defend a castle and fend off a dragon with LEGO® DUPLO® blocks? Our Beginner Builders sure can! Join us for a week of simple machines and animal exploration as we learn about catapults, defense towers, and our very own (Komodo) dragon at the Greensboro Science Center.
Explore the Moon… with a robot! This robot engineering camp will learn what it takes to live and research on Earth’s natural satellite. Campers will use WeDo 2.0 robots, Ozobots, and investigate the lunar landscape through science demonstrations and experiments as they train like the astronauts to prepare for a lunar landing!
Master Builders
Do you have what it takes to be a Master Builder? Our Rookie Engineers will face daily build challenges such as hiding a minifigure, building the tallest tower, and designing a game as they learn how to use common brick elements in new ways! Campers will also spend time exploring stop motion animation and building their own feature film.
Intermediate Engineers will build and program a fully autonomous robot using the LEGO® Education SPIKE™ Prime Set to complete missions on a previous FIRST LEGO League (FLL) challenge mat (Into Orbit). Students will also explore project design and teamwork as they research using technology in long term space exploration. If your student will be 10 years old by Sept. 1, 2023 this will count as the prerequisite for applying to one of the FIRST Lego League teams at GSC. Taking this camp does not guarantee a spot on a team. See our website for more information about joining a FLL team in the fall.
Please choose only one session per child.
