Inside Tracks: Zoo Trek

Get closer than ever before to our zoo animals! Participate in enrichment and learn from zookeepers in an exclusive, behind-the-scenes setting. Activities may include wonderful - and memorable - up-close experiences with our howler monkeys, lemurs, maned wolves and giant anteater, and Aldabra tortoises or meerkats! This is an active walking activity, so sneakers or comfortable shoes are a must!

We'll start in food prep to see what’s on the menu for our whole zoo and also pick up some enrichment treats to share with the animals. Then we'll walk to four different animal exhibits and meet a Keeper at each as we step behind the scenes. You’ll learn more about individual animals who live here and about important conservation issues surrounding their species in the wild.

This is an up-close, but non-contact program.
Be prepared to walk, including the hill to the tiger exhibit. Sneakers or comfortable closed-toe shoes are required; please no sandals or flip-flops. Be sure to bring a camera/cell phone for pictures – just no selfie sticks, please.
We are outside, and the biggest allergy alert is probably our resident honeybees and pesky yellow jackets. We will be wearing latex-free gloves during one experience.
We’ll meet at the Zoo Trek sign posted at Friendly Farm’s (big blue barn’s) doors, just past the goat yard. The program starts gathering at 12:50 and begins at 1:00.
Advance tickets are advised. Check for available spaces on the day of your visit at the Information Desk, in the lobby. Purchase tickets before 12:00pm.

We will not run a Zoo Trek when we expect thunder and lightning or heavy rain. In this case we will contact you on the day of the Trek by 11:00am and your rescheduled date will be the next day, Sunday at 1:00pm. In light rain just bring a raincoat or umbrella, but we will be leaving those umbrellas at the corner of exhibits because they disturb our animals.

Do expect hot weather during the summer in this outdoor program – we'll even give you a water bottle to help you beat the heat!

The group meets at 12:50 and will start at 1:00. Because we are on the move and behind the scenes there is no guarantee that a late person can be connected with the group. Tickets are non-refundable.
Most special needs can be accommodated with advance notice (required). Wheelchairs cannot navigate all of our planned stops, but we may have some alternates for you. Contact us at 336-288-3769 ext. 1357 with questions.
