About the Camp Assistant Team (CAT)

If you enjoy working with kids, have a passion for science, show initiative, and are looking for a meaningful way to spend your summer, consider applying for our summer camp assistant team (CAT). Volunteers are a vital part of our organization. The CAT is a rigorous volunteer program. We expect much from our teen volunteers. In return, we will help you develop valuable skills that you can use in school and in life. We encourage our teens to take initiative to help our educators to engage and educate the children that join us for camp as well as have some fun!

There are two areas that our CAT’s can apply for: our Science Exploration camps or LEGO/Robotics camps. Science Exploration camps take a deeper look into a variety of science topics such as biology, animals, chemistry, pollinators, matter, space, and more! The LEGO/Robotics camps explore the world of building robots and coding as well as introducing our youngest campers to building with LEGOs. All our camps are a fun and interactive way to spend the summer!

See our Summer 2023 CAT Program Guide for more detailed information that will help you as you apply for the program.

FAQs

CAT members help through out camp to facilitate crafts, help with experiments, help to keep the campers together when on field trips into the facility, help with bathroom breaks as well as anything else the teacher may need. It is a great opportunity to work with different age groups as well as in different areas of science and robotics. This opportunity is what the applicant makes it! Taking initiative to help in classroom activities is always encouraged!

Yes, but not in the way you might think.  For some camps, animal visitors will come to the classroom or the camp will head out into the facility to see the animals that live at the GSC. Any animals that the campers get to touch or feed, our volunteers will be welcome to touch or feed as well.

CAT members must commit to a minimum of one week on camp (Monday-Friday) for the morning, afternoon, or all-day shift. Multiple weeks will be available to those that wish to volunteer throughout the summer.

The fee for our CAT program is $5.00. This includes the cost of your name tag and your volunteer t-shirt which you will wear during your shifts as well as your background check. That fee is due when you come for on-site training, NOT when you submit your application.

Once you complete the form, click the continue button at the bottom. You will receive a confirmation email immediately letting you know that we have received your application. Within 48 hours, we will review your application and email you to set up an interview. We communicate with applicants solely via the email address you provide on your application. Please make sure to check your SPAM folder since our emails occasionally go to SPAM.
