There is a $15 fee to switch classes. Refunds (minus a $25 processing fee per participant per class) for cancellations will be issued, provided the GSC is notified at least 14 days in advance. Unfortunately we do not offer refunds due to illness if notified less than 14 days in advance. Should the GSC cancel a class series you are registered for, due to low enrollment, you will receive a full refund.

Due to our online registration system, Active Network, there are costs involved in which we cannot offer a full refund.

The only classes that are designed for a parent/guardian to attend with their child are our Nature Tots classes for our 3-4 year-olds. All other classes are independent classes, and children will be dropped off at the door to the classroom.

Our classes for ages 5 and up are independent classes, and children will attend without a parent or guardian. A successful student is able to be independent during class. Students need to be fully potty trained and able to communicate their body’s needs with our staff. They should be able to follow instructions and directions and walk in a line throughout the campus with their group. We encourage parents and guardians to review the Behavior Contract with their child to ensure they understand class expectations and possible consequences. You can review the Behavior Contract (here). Our goal is for every child to have a fun and successful class experience.

Our classes are designed to have hands-on science and outdoor experiences, so dress accordingly. Messes and mud are possible, and we encourage bringing weather appropriate clothing for the occasional outdoor activity.

Please wear sturdy, close-toed shoes such as sneakers. Crocs are not recommended due to the exposed toes that can allow lab substances or natural material to enter the shoe. Shoes with wheels, such as Heelys, are not permitted in classes.

We recommend children bring a refillable water bottle labeled with their name. Please do not bring any food or snacks to classes. Our focus for the class time is on science and fun, so please leave all toys and electronics at home. Our staff is not responsible for lost or damaged items.

GSC staff will not administer any medication, except for EpiPens in the event of an emergency. If you would like your child to have sunscreen or bug spray for class, please apply these before coming to class.

Children bringing an EpiPen will need to complete an EpiPen Authorization and Waiver Form, available (here). Completed forms will be turned into GSC staff along with the EpiPen when you check in on the first day of class. Extra forms will be available at check-in as well.

Please be aware that while we do our best to keep our classrooms nut-free, it is not possible for us to fully monitor what foods are brought in by other children and the general public.

The Greensboro Science Center aims to provide a friendly, accessible environment for all campers by providing the widest possible access to our building, exhibitions, events and programs. While we hope to offer our classes to as wide a range of children as possible, it is not possible for us to offer one-on-one care. If your child can benefit from any modification and/or support in order to fully enjoy his/her time with us, please contact camps@greensboroscience.org.

Our teaching staff are educators from formal and informal backgrounds, active and previous classroom teachers and GSC Education Staff. All teachers, teaching assistants and volunteers complete a background check.
