Docents help us greet, interact with, and educate our visitors in the aquarium as well as assist with animal touch experiences. Being a docent requires a willingness to meet and speak with guests, a love of animals, and the ability to retain information. You’ll interact with our visitors during every shift and contribute to their positive experiences here at the GSC. You’ll share important conservation messages with our guests, an essential part of how we meet our mission to inspire scientific curiosity and encourage personal discovery about life and the natural world.
Tier 2 docents are required to have been a tier 1 docent for a minimum of 6 months and must apply when volunteer staff open applications. Tier 2 docents have the option of helping prepare diets in the zoo or aquarium, work on a husbandry team, or be on the training teams for our ambassador animals. These programs are highly competitive and not everyone will be able to advance to a Tier 2 level.
Tier 3 docents are previous interns who have been approved to return by the animal care staff. Volunteers can also progress to this program through an invitation from an animal care staff member. Opportunities in this Tier are limited to animal care staff availability and preference will be given to current interns.
