The Greensboro Science Center’s Brick Engineering & Robotics classes and camps inspire builders ages 5–14 to think creatively and work collaboratively through hands-on STEM exploration. Students learn coding, engineering, and design using LEGO® bricks and robotics in team-based and individual challenges that promote problem-solving, communication, and critical thinking.

Ages 5
Beginning Builders
Classes offered each Spring using Duplo & Early Simple Machines to build themed projects focused on imagination and teamwork.
Ages 6-7
FIRST® LEGO® League: Explore (Spring) and Rookie Engineers
Introduction to robotics and coding using Spike Essential, WeDo 2.0, and Scratch, offered in Spring, Summer, and Fall sessions.
Ages 8-9
Intermediate Engineers
Hands-on design challenges using Spike Prime, stop-motion animation, and traditional LEGO® elements.
Ages 10-12
Rookie Robotics
Classes and camps are offered yearround for students to explore innovative design, the engineering design process, and team building.
FIRST® LEGO® League Teams (Ages 11–14)
The Greensboro Science Center sponsors several teams for the FIRST® LEGO® League: Challenge (FLL®) season. FLL is an international competition around designing and programming autonomous LEGO Spike Prime robots to complete challenges on a themed mat. Students also learn team-building skills and create innovative solutions for challenges facing today’s scientists. For more information about the international FLL program, click here.
Season: August–January
Time Commitment: 3-hour weekly meetings (10+ weeks), scrimmages, and competitions
Cost: $300 per participant (includes supplies, t-shirt, and registration)
Membership: Active GSC membership required
How to Join Us:
All potential new team members must be between the ages of 11 and 14 by September 1st and must attend one prerequisite Spring Class or Summer Camp, called FIRST® LEGO® League Experience at the Greensboro Science Center, before applying to join a team. Classes are designed to teach anyone starting or familiar with robotics in Spike Prime programming, best robotic design practices, project development, and the presentation skills needed for the FLL season.
After the prerequisite class/camp, families will be invited to attend an annual “Parent Information Meeting” at the end of July. We’ll review the application process, team expectations, and the season overview.
