Inspiring Curiosity Since 1957

Our Story of Curiosity and Conservation

The Greensboro Science Center has been sparking curiosity and wonder since 1957, when it first opened as the Greensboro Junior Museum, a community effort led by the Junior League of Greensboro. What began as a small nature center has grown into one of North Carolina’s top science-based destinations.

Over the years, the GSC has expanded with a zoo, planetarium, and AAM accreditation in 1985, followed by AZA accreditation in 2008. From the Wiseman Aquarium to SKYWILD, Revolution Ridge, and FLYWAY Zipline, every experience connects people to the natural world. Soon, Expedition Rainforest: The Greensboro Biodome will continue that mission through immersive conservation and discovery.

This dual accreditation recognizes our commitment to the highest standards of animal care, education, conservation, and guest experience. Every visit supports an accredited organization dedicated to making science meaningful, accessible, and inspiring for all.
